Information for Domestic Applicants

Whether you’re interested in learning more about nuclear power, nuclear medicine or nuclear forensics, expand your nuclear skills and knowledge and apply to our program. Required for Admissions

Bachelor Degree: A bachelor degree from an accredited institution of higher learning in one of the branches of engineering or in mathematics, physics, computer science, chemistry, biology, or in a related field.  Students in non-engineering majors must have completed at least three semesters of calculus.

GPA: MS applicants should have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 (out of 4.0) in the undergraduate degree.

Direct Admit PhD: We encourage exceptionally qualified B.S. students to apply to the Direct Admit PhD option.  Admission requirements:  Undergraduate GPA 3.5/4.0 or top 15% of graduating class. GRE minimum scores: Verbal=150, Quantitative=166, Analytical Writing=3.5. Those not admitted to the Direct Admit PhD program will automatically be considered for the Master’s non-thesis degree.

Visitation Weekend

Each February we fly our top perspective PhD applicants from around the country for an on-campus visit where you’ll meet faculty and students, tour the facility and campus, and participate in exciting activities around Salt Lake City.  Complete your applications early to be considered for the visit.

Application Procedures/Information

GRE (taken within the last 5 years)M.S. Applicants: A minimum score of 300 between quantitative and verbal sections.
Ph.D. Applicants: A minimum quantitative score of 155, and a minimum score of 300 between quantitative and verbal sections. Official GRE scores must be received from ETS (school code 4853).
Letters of RecommendationsEnter name and email address of 3 recommenders. Admissions Office will gather electronic letters once application is submitted. Academic letters are preferred.
Personal StatementDescribe applicant background, interests, and reasons for pursuing a graduate degree as well as career goals.
TranscriptsUpload unofficial transcripts for all post-secondary schools attended.

 If admitted to the University, official transcripts will be required.
Resume or Curriculum VitaeUpload a copy of current resume or vitae.

Admission decisions are made based on the qualification of the applicant compared to other applicants, the needs of the Department, any restrictions or restrains under which the Department is operating, and other unnamed considerations.
